Let’s take the case of Dell XPS computer. In certain cases, the device may not work properly if your computer's USB ports are experiencing problems. To fix a USB issue with your Dell XPS computer in Windows, you need to ensure that the operating system is recognizing the ports and make sure you have the latest BIOS.

Instructions For Retrieving Compacted Emails In Outlook Express

Microsoft Outlook Express periodically compacts emails to save space. You can perform a manual compaction process, when required, to keep the application to function efficiently. The compacted emails for each folder are stored in a database file. You may have problems retrieving the compacted messages if the database file is damaged.

Microsoft has updates available on its website to help you retrieve compacted mails in Outlook Express, and you can locate the database file in which the emails or backup copies of the files are stored. Assistance is available through Microsoft help line and chat support for those who have issues with using Outlook Express.

Instructions
  • Launch the Microsoft Outlook Express application by clicking on the Start button from the Windows desktop and then clicking on Outlook Express from the Start menu or the Programs menu. Alternatively, you can click on the Outlook Express icon on your Windows desktop or your taskbar.
  • Click on the View menu and click on Current View. Ensure that Show All Messages is checked and the Show Replies to My Messages box is not checked. Your messages might not be missing, but are simply excluded from your current view settings. If you are able to retrieve your missing messages after changing these settings, do not perform the following troubleshooting steps, as your database files are not affected.
  • Navigate to Microsoft’s KB918069 page with your Web browser. Outlook Express is a Microsoft product and Microsoft has Knowledge Base (KB) articles available to provide technical support for known issues with its products. KB918069 helps you to retrieve compacted emails in Microsoft Outlook Express 6. Go through the entire article before proceeding.
  • Download Security Update MS06-076 and the KB918766 package using the links provided on the page. Double-click on the downloaded files and follow the on-screen wizard to install the software updates. You may be required to restart the Outlook Express application.
  • Double-click on the Recycle Bin icon on your desktop to open the Recycle Bin. After you have installed the update, Outlook Express will automatically place backup copies of your database files in the Recycle Bin after compaction with a .bak extension. Right-click on a BAK file and click on Restore from the drop-down menu.
  • Locate the Mail_folder_name.bak file from your computer. Right-click on the file, click on the Rename option and change the extension to .dbx, so that the filename is changed to Mail_folder_name.dbx.
Start Outlook Express again. It should have retrieved the compacted mails from the DBX file for that mail folder. For more assistance, contact Microsoft Help Line and their tech support executives will help you fix the problem.

Steps To Increase The Memory Of Your Laptop

Nowadays laptops come with memory sizes that is more than enough for normal usage. Of course, how much is “enough” is arbitrary as it largely depends upon use. But you can always choose to increase the memory to make your laptop more efficient.  If the memory of your laptop is low, you can’t expect much from it in terms of performance. People usually think that increasing laptop memory is something that can only be handled by a technical person, but the fact is, you can do it yourself by following the appropriate instructions.

Computer support instructions

Before going ahead with this procedure, make sure to keep your laptop manual ready.

  • Fist of all you need to go through your laptop manual. Doing this avoids a lot of confusion as you move along with the procedure. You can find information about the maximum memory capability of your laptop and the kind of memory to use.
  • See how much memory that your laptop currently have. You can get this information by accessing the “System Properties” window. You first need to know how much memory your laptop has before you  decide how much memory needs to be purchased. In some laptops, you are required to have equal amount of memory in each slot.
  • Now proceed to buy the appropriate memory chip. The function of your laptop becomes smoother if it has more memory.
  • Make sure to get rid of the battery of your laptop to avoid any possible damage. Also do not take the memory chip out from the static proof till the time it is needed.
  • Remove the screws that hold the memory cover. Install the memory chips in the specified angle.
  • Place the chip carefully into the socket. Note that you are not allowed to exert pressure while handling the memory chips. You can actually feel it slide in its place, provided if it is done correctly.
  • Put the cover back in its place and make sure that the screws are tight enough. Switch on the power to check if your laptop is detecting the newly installed memory. Both your laptop and Windows has to recognize the memory, and then only you can say that the process was successful.

Installing memory won’t be a big task, provided you follow all these computer support instructions without fail. If you have any doubts, contact the tech support team.

How To Retrieve An Unsaved Word Document?

For the last five years, I have been using Microsoft’s Word application to generate professional looking and unique documents, forms, letters, etc. From my POV; this is the best Word Processor application now available in the computer market.

Yesterday, while completing my class assignments in MS Word, I accidently closed the document without saving it first. Luckily, I was able to retrieve the word document that I forgot to save with the aid of technical assistance from the Microsoft team.

How to locate the Original Word Document?

  • Bring up the Windows Start menu by clicking the Start button situated to the lower left of your desktop screen.
  • Now input the name of your document into the search field and then press Enter.
  • Go through the search results and locate the Word document among them. If the particular document is not there in the list, go to the Start menu again and input the entire file name, including the .docx or.doc extension, into the search field, and then press Enter. Now the entire files with the .doc or .docx extension will get displayed.
  • Now go through the search result to check whether the Word document that you are searching for is there or not. If not, then you have to go for a backup copy.
You can follow the below instructions given by the reliable Microsoft Tech Support team to find the backup copy of the Word document. For this, you need to locate the document that has .wbk as the extension.

How to find out the backup copy of MS Word document?

  • Firstly, open Microsoft Word application on the computer by double-clicking the Microsoft Word short icon.
  • Once the application gets loaded completely, click on the Microsoft Office button located in the top right corner of the screen and select the option that reads Open from the drop down menu list.
  • Now locate the Files of Types list and choose the All Files option.
  • Now locate the backup file in the generated search results, and open the document by double-clicking on it.

Alternative method

You can also make use of the search option in the Windows start menu for locating the files with .wbk as the extension. I personally think this method is simpler compared to the one discussed above.

If you notice or alert message pop-up on the screen saying Outlook blocked access to the following potentially unsafe attachments: the Outlook is blocking the attached document.
The Outlook does not block Office 2007 attachments.
