• Go to the Start menu in the bottom left corner of the screen, and click on it. Select Control Panel and click to open it.
• From the Control Panel window, locate the “Administrative Tools” icon. Double-click to open the available list of services. You can see different system tools listed over there.
• Locate “Services” icon and double-click to open it. The Services window will display the list of services active on your computer. Locate the service titled “Messenger”. Double-click to open the “Messenger Properties” window. Locate the Startup type option. Click on the drop-down list to see the options available. There will be three options to choose from, namely – Automatic, Manual and Disabled. Choose the option labeled “Disabled” from the drop-down list.
• Just below the Startup type, there will be another option that reads “Service status”. Click on the “Stop” button.
• Finally click “OK” to apply the changes.
You have now successfully turned off Microsoft Instant Messenger. From the next time on, you won’t see the Instant Messenger Microsoft chat icon on the taskbar, in the bottom right corner of your computer screen. Once you have disabled this instant messaging service, you won’t get anymore annoying pop ups or ads through it.
