Instructions To Turn Off Microsoft’s Instant Messenger

Microsoft’s Instant Messenger service lets you connect to your dear ones in real time. Its simple interface makes it easy for the users to establish a quick communication channel. The photo sharing and video chatting feature made it an instant hit among the Windows computer users. Windows Instant Messenger gets automatically installed into your computer when you install any Windows version.
Usually Instant Messenger is enabled by default when you startup your computer. You may sometimes want to disable Instant Messenger for some reason. Microsoft has integrated this chat program with many of its other applications like Microsoft Outlook. Sometimes it can get really annoying as that the Microsoft chat service causes frequent pop up ads to appear while you’re do something important. If you are using Windows XP computer, you can easily disable the Instant Messenger service from your computer by following the below mentioned steps.

Instructions to disable Microsoft Instant Messenger

Go to the Start menu in the bottom left corner of the screen, and click on it. Select Control Panel and click to open it.
From the Control Panel window, locate the “Administrative Tools” icon. Double-click to open the available list of services. You can see different system tools listed over there.
Locate “Services” icon and double-click to open it. The Services window will display the list of services active on your computer. Locate the service titled “Messenger”. Double-click to open the “Messenger Properties” window. Locate the Startup type option. Click on the drop-down list to see the options available. There will be three options to choose from, namely – Automatic, Manual and Disabled. Choose the option labeled “Disabled” from the drop-down list.
Just below the Startup type, there will be another option that reads “Service status”. Click on the “Stop” button.
Finally click “OK” to apply the changes.
You have now successfully turned off Microsoft Instant Messenger. From the next time on, you won’t see the Instant Messenger Microsoft chat icon on the taskbar, in the bottom right corner of your computer screen. Once you have disabled this instant messaging service, you won’t get anymore annoying pop ups or ads through it.
